Decided to order a new back door and windows plus new patio doors onto the patio from existing old timber framed windows from Mc Gregor Windows and Doors.
1st criteria was no lip or threshold to step over we wanted accessible entrances and exits as we are renewing steps and building a ramp to gain safe access to our garden, summerhouse and car as we are getting on and I have some health issues and knee and foot problems that make walking painful and difficult from time to time.
The government guidelines for domestic entrances is a max 5mm with rounded edge.
The sliding doors they installed have a 70mm square edge that I have tripped over twice as it is the only high threshold in our home.
All the items were too small for the actual knocked out spaces. I asked the fitters a few times to lower the frame of the patio doors near to floor level, but they didn’t. Photos show the poor measurements and the impact after day one. They had to remove all fittings to fit timber around the edges the next day.
The expensive Palladio door is leaking, it closes oddly and feels cold inside. The patio doors handle was ordered the wrong colour and one window had scapes down to the white framework and noticeable being anthracite on the outside. it had to be replaced. The commercial slabs they used look bad grey with white circles and blotches and after 4 months look worse.
McGregor windows and doors are unwilling to replace the badly fitted patio doors or the horrible slabs instead of the stone quoted.
The quotes listed the rear door with low level threshold, there was no mention if the patio doors were or were not but trusted the salesman to deliver the brief. They are now quibbling about everything and got Raeburn Christie to send us a letter demanding the balance when the doors are not fit for purpose and we will have to find another installer to deliver what we asked for and return the ill fitting windows etc back to them..
